The timetable for the Wakefield 2008 show presentations was revealed this week. The show talks give companies and prominent individuals a chance to put their work into the public spotlight and spend an hour or so touting their wares to eager audiences.
This year, RISC OS Open will start the proceedings at 10.30am and are likely to summarise the shared source project's progress over the past year. The team may also hint at what is to come. At 11.15am, RISCOS Ltd boss Paul Middleton will address the crowds and hopefully spill the beans on what his company has achieved over the past 12 months. The last last release from ROL came in October in the form of an upgrade pack for RISC OS Select 4i2, which was made available in April 2007. A source close to ROL confirmed a secret group of programmers are still working on the company's source code.
The contact added: "There has been a flurry of updates to the RISC OS source code vault. A few updated ROM images have been slipped to beta testers to try out and offer feedback on, but any talk of a new OS release is under tight wraps. It's a crying shame that ROL has forgotten to let customers know what it's working on, or even that it is working on anything."
At 12pm, just in time for lunch, the RISC OS Connect group will give a speech on their efforts to promote collaborative development. Their project has effectively stalled and is in danger of collapse, but it's hoped their show talk will attract some attention to their work. Other speakers include Martin Wuerthner at 2pm, who is expected to demonstrate the upcoming ArtWorks 2.8 release, and ROOL head honcho Steve Revill at 2.45pm, who will talk about the applications released under his 7th Software brand.
The show takes place at the The Cedar Court Hotel, West Yorkshire, on Saturday, April 26. The event is sponsored by RISC OS-friendly printers Crawfords, MW Software and the ever-mysterious Advantage Six. For more details, see the link below.
